Re: FREE De-Escalation Training Seminar with Michael Summers

Interacting with clients with mental illness who are agitated can be a difficult task. A key part of making these interactions a safer experience for all parties is the de-escalation of the behavior presented by the client. This training was created and will be presented by Michael Summers, a retired police sergeant with over 30 years of experience. He has been working towards crisis intervention since 1999, when he organized and participated in law enforcement mental health outreach. Now, he provides training on how to deal with persons coping effectively and safely with a mental health crisis.

The training will include an overview of mental illness, crisis communication, and de-escalation. The training is perfect for County department employees, affiliated contractors, law enforcement employees, first responders, and other stakeholders that experience individual clients and customers that may be agitated.

Behavioral Health and Recovery Services and The Stepping Up Initiative are sponsoring this De-Escalation Training Seminar with Michael Summers on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Behavioral Health Training Center at 8207 East Road, Redwood Valley, CA, 95470.
