We are excited to introduce our newest intern, Eli Hunter-Hanover, a dedicated young man from Ukiah who has joined The Ukiah Post team to provide crucial fire reporting. Currently a sophomore in high school, Eli is an example of commitment, passion, and community spirit.

Eli’s fascination with wildfires began as a young boy when he would join his father to watch and photograph wildland fires. These formative experiences sparked an interest that has since grown into a commitment to educate and inform others. This passion led Eli to create a Facebook group in the summer of 2021, where he began sharing updates on wildfires. In 2022, his dedication culminated in the launch of a fully-functional website specifically tailored to provide fire information for Northern California.

As a part of The Ukiah Post team, Eli plans to engage our audience by providing real-time updates on ongoing fire incidents. His comprehensive reports will include details about the fire location, size, containment efforts, and crucial evacuation orders. Eli’s approach demonstrates a keen understanding of the urgency and accuracy required in this role.

Despite the inherent challenges of fire reporting, Eli is ready to face them head-on. His solution lies in having a well-thought-out plan and templates to swiftly fill in and report information as it becomes available.

Outside of his professional interests, Eli is an active teenager who loves to ride his bike around town, work out, and engage with the world through his love for photography. He embodies a perfect blend of youthful energy and maturity, appreciating the need to balance his commitment to fire reporting with maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Eli’s excitement about joining The Ukiah Post team is palpable. He’s eager to share his knowledge with his local community, fostering a greater understanding of wildfires while also growing as a reporter. Beyond this internship, Eli has his eyes set on an even bigger goal – he aspires to become a firefighter after high school. He’s already paving the way towards this by serving as a Fire Cadet with the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority.

One aspect that stands out about Eli is his heartfelt passion for his interests. He’s not just a fire reporter or a prospective firefighter; he’s a community member dedicated to making a difference. We are thrilled to welcome Eli to our team and are confident that his contributions will provide valuable insights and updates to our readers.
