*Editor’s Note: If you see or smell smoke, it is crucial to act promptly to ensure the safety of yourself and those around you. In such situations, it is essential to call 911 immediately to report the incident to the appropriate authorities.

Ukiah, Ca – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a weather advisory for tomorrow evening, indicating a slight chance of isolated dry lightning in certain areas. According to the NWS Eureka, there is a 15% probability of dry thunderstorms occurring from 5 PM Sunday to 5 AM Monday specifically over Lake and southeastern Mendocino Counties. While the likelihood of these thunderstorms is relatively low, it is essential to remain aware of the potential risks associated with such weather conditions.

While thunderstorms are a common occurrence during the summer months, the concern here lies in the term “dry lightning.” Dry lightning refers to lightning that occurs without accompanying rainfall, posing an increased risk of wildfires in affected areas. These lightning strikes can ignite dry vegetation and contribute to the rapid spread of fires, which is why they warrant special attention.

Furthermore, elevated convective cells within these thunderstorms may produce gusty and erratic outflow winds. These sudden and unpredictable winds can create hazardous conditions, especially for outdoor activities and those living in affected areas. It is crucial for individuals to exercise caution during these weather events and stay updated on any additional advisories or warnings issued by local authorities.

Stay safe, stay informed, and stay ahead of the storm.
